Copenhagen goes MVRDV

MVRDV, along with ADEPT Architects, have unvealed their design for a new mix-use skyscrapper for the city of Copenhagen, Denmark.

The 116 meter tall tower will consist of a series of apartments, a hotel, retail spaces and offices. The generating concept responds to unstable economy by creating a flexible grid, which would allow alterations to the program by re-assigning units.

“The constellation of the pixels allows flexibility in function; the building can be transformed by market forces,” say the architects. “Flexibility for adaptation is one of the best sustainable characteristics of a building.”

My opinion? I like not only the idea of flexibility but the general asthetics of the buildin. Although, I should say, the building has a close resemblance to OMA's NY tower as well as pretty much everything BIG has designed.

You be the judge.
